CARSON CITY, NV - October 19, 2015
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has been advised and briefed on the industrial fire at the U.S. Ecology site located outside of the town of Beatty, Nevada inside Nye County, Nevada. The Governor has directed multiple state agencies to mobilize state resources and begin working with Nye County officials. At Nye County’s request, state resources have been approved by the Governor to assist and coordinate with local efforts in managing the situation.
“I have directed state agencies to mobilize resources and continue working with local authorities. Our top priority is the health and safety of Nevadans and those travelling near the incident site,” said Governor Brian Sandoval.
Governor Sandoval directed the Department of Public Safety including the Highway Patrol, State Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Divisions, Department of Health and Human Services, Nevada National Guard including the Civil Support Team, Department of Transportation, and Division of Environment Protection to determine the amount of damage and work with the local officials to monitor the ongoing situation. Sandoval was alerted of the incident at 5:30 p.m. PDT and fully briefed at 7:30 p.m. The Governor has been in constant contact with state officials, has approved the mobilization of state assistance and resources, and will continue to monitor the developing situation. State personnel have activated the state Emergency Operations Center in Carson City and will remain on-site to continue coordinating resources and provide updates.
