Sandoval Appoints Michon Martin to Athletic Commission

Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Michon Martin to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, effective immediately. Martin will fill the vacancy created with the resignation of Bill Brady for a term ending October 31, 2016.

“Michon is incredibly smart, well-reasoned, and tough which are all qualities found in effective and respected commissioners. I am confident that she will be a respected addition to the Nevada State Athletic Commission,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “In order to remain a top global destination in this competitive industry, we must demand the highest standards of excellence in order to produce a stable and fair environment that provides athletes, fans and stakeholders the utmost confidence. I am proud to make this appointment and know she will serve with the same diligence and integrity that the state expects from all of its appointments.”

Michon Martin currently serves as the General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Deputy General Counsel for Resorts World Las Vegas. Martin previously served as the Chief Counsel for Governor Sandoval where she served as the governor’s legal advisor and managed regulatory, transportation, resources, and federal agency issues. Prior to joining the Governor's Office, Martin served as the Chief Deputy Attorney General with the Nevada Attorney General's Office, where she managed the litigation division and served as the lead counsel in nationwide litigation. In addition to her experience in the courtroom, Martin is well-versed in the legislative process, having coordinated legislative initiatives before the state Legislature on behalf of Governor Sandoval. She has also served as legal counsel to a number of state agencies. Prior to her tenure with the Attorney General's Office, Martin was a prosecutor for over a decade specializing in crimes against women and children. A native Nevadan, Martin earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, and her law degree from the University of San Francisco.
