Governor Brian Sandoval today accepted the resignation of Director Greg Cox from the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC). Sandoval appointed E.K. McDaniel to serve as Interim-Director of the Department, effective immediately.

“I would like to thank Greg for his service to our state and I appreciate his hard work serving the people of Nevada,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “As we move forward, E.K. will help provide a smooth transition while we work to find new leadership for the Department. I am grateful that he stepped up during this critical time and would like to thank all of the dedicated men and women of the department for their continued commitment to service.”

E.K. McDaniel has worked for the Nevada Department of Corrections for more than twenty years. He began his career in Nevada as Warden of the Ely State Prison in 1993. He remained in that role until 2011 when he was promoted to serve as the Deputy Director of Operations for NDOC. In this capacity, McDaniel supervises all state facilities, oversees training, and helps manage the Department’s legislative agenda. Prior to his service in Nevada, McDaniel served in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections starting as a correctional officer in 1975 and working his way up to Deputy Warden of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
