Carson City, NV - November 10, 2015
First Lady Kathleen Sandoval and Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta led a delegation of six representatives from Nevada to a Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center conference in Austin, Texas.
The Nevada delegation included First Lady Kathleen Sandoval, Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta, as well as state and county representatives. The conference provided these representatives with the opportunity to share and receive feedback on local and state policies as well as a chance to collaborate with other juvenile justice experts and state teams.
“We should always strive toward maintaining a juvenile justice system that is fair to all youth, develops curriculum aimed at recidivism prevention, and helps provide a path for future success for those in the system,” said First Lady Kathleen Sandoval. “This conference allowed some of Nevada’s top advocates in this arena the opportunity to collaborate with counterparts from across the United States. I am hopeful we will continue this important dialogue here in Nevada and work toward improving our local juvenile justice systems in the Silver State.”
This two-day event labeled, “Improving Outcomes for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System: A 50-State Forum,” provided states an opportunity to collaborate, share past experiences and understand the latest research from national experts. The conference was organized by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, and made possible through funding by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
