Sandoval Appoints Rex Steininger to Elko County Commission

CARSON CITY, NV - December 22, 2014

Governor Brian Sandoval today announced the appointment of Rex Steninger to the Elko County Commission. Steninger was the highest ranking finalist recommended to Governor Sandoval by the Elko County Commission.

“Rex Steninger will serve as a passionate advocate for Elko County in his new role on the County Commission. As a native Nevadan, community volunteer, and past editor and publisher of the Elko Daily Free Press, he has a unique perspective and wealth of knowledge about Elko County and its constituents,” said Sandoval. “I would like to thank the Commission for their thorough review of the applicants and look forward to continuing a strong relationship with the Elko County Commission,” concluded Sandoval.

Rex Steninger, 59, is a native of Elko, Nevada. Steninger earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has worked as a rancher, contractor, hunter, and publisher and editor of the Elko Daily Free Press, which his family owned and operated until 2000. Steninger is an active member of his community and has previously served on the board of directors for the Nevada Press Association, the Silver State Stampede, and the Lamoille Water District. Rex currently lives in Elko County with his wife, Dorothy.

Steninger will fill the vacancy created by the death of Elko County Commissioner Grant Gerber.
