Sandoval Appoints Jim Wright as Interim Director of Public Safety

CARSON CITY, NV – Governor Brian Sandoval today announced that he has appointed Jim Wright as the Interim Director of the Nevada Department of Public Safety, effective June 29, 2013.

Sandoval also announced that Jackie Muth will serve as Deputy Director of the Department. Muth has served as Commander of the Department of Public Safety Office of Professional Responsibility Staff.

“Jim has served as Deputy Director of the Department since July 2011 and has done a remarkable job,” Governor Brian Sandoval said. “Jim has been an integral part of the Department and has helped it respond to emergencies across our state. I am pleased that Jim has agreed to serve in this capacity.”

From February 2011 through October 2011, Wright served as Interim Chief of the Nevada Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division. From August of 2006 through July of 2011, Wright served as Chief of the Nevada State Fire Marshal Division. He is also a former Deputy Director and Chief of Fire Protection with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Wright, who received his A.S. from College of the Desert and his Bachelor’s in Fire Administration from Cogswell Polytechnical College, is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs Association, the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association, the Nevada State Firefighters Association and the California State Firefighters Association.
