Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Gary Fairman to the Seventh Judicial District Court, Department 2 vacancy.
“A member of the Elks and Rotary clubs, Gary is dedicated to the Ely community,” Governor Brian Sandoval said. “I am confident that his experience with the District Court and his knowledge of the law will serve him well on the bench.”
Currently a lawyer in private practice, Fairman is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and California-Western School of Law. While in law school, Fairman served as a pro bono law clerk in the San Diego Schools Attorney’s Office and at the jail inmate legal services clinic.
Admitted to the Nevada bar in 1978, Fairman served as Deputy District Attorney in the White Pine County District Attorney’s Office from 1979 to 1982. Fairman opened his private practice in Ely in 1979 and over the last five years, has spent approximately fifty percent of his time on litigation matters at the district court level. He has represented public entities, including the City of Ely from 1982-1990, the White Pine County Hospital District, Ruth-McGill Water and Sewer District and the White Pine Tourism and Recreation Board. Fairman donates time to form and advise local non-profit organizations and routinely gives pro bono advice. Since 1985, he has regularly accepted criminal indigent appointments when asked by the courts.
In 1997, Fairman received the State Bar of Nevada Pro Bono Award for District 2. He has served as a member of the Southern Nevada Disciplinary Board and a member of the Board of Bar Examiners committee on testing.
A member of the White Pine Chamber of Commerce since 1980, Fairman and his wife were co-chairpersons of the Ely Elks Lodge crab feed from 1981 to 2008. Fairman served as president of the Ely Rotary Club in 1985 and has been the secretary of the club since 1988. He is also the race announcer at the White Pine County Horse Races.
