CARSON CITY, NV - October 16, 2012
Governor Brian Sandoval and his Cabinet will visit schools across Nevada this Friday, October 19th to read to students in the first, second and third grades as part of the Administration’s ongoing effort to focus on education reform and reading proficiency.
“Data shows that students who are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely than proficient readers to drop out of high school,” Governor Brian Sandoval said. “We must help our children learn to read so that by the third grade, they can join their peers and read to learn. It is my hope that by taking this simple, unified step, my cabinet and I can bring new focus to the reading challenges of our young people.”
The Governor will read to second grade students at a school in Sparks. Members of the Cabinet and their representatives will read at schools in Las Vegas, Carson City, Reno, Silver Springs, Amargosa Valley, Lovelock and Fallon. Exact locations and times are forthcoming.
