CARSON CITY, NV - April 27, 2012
Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has reappointed Dr. Tony Alamo to the Nevada Gaming Commission, effective today. Dr. Alamo’s new term will expire April 27, 2016.
Dr. Alamo is a physician practicing in Southern Nevada and an Organizer/Director of a community bank, Bank of George, FDIC chartered in 2007. Dr. Alamo was first appointed to the Commission in May of 2008.
“I am very happy that Dr. Alamo has agreed to continue to serve our state on the Gaming Commission,” Governor Sandoval said. “Dr. Alamo has helped lead the Commission as they worked to create and enact regulations for intrastate internet gaming in anticipation of Federal allowance of interstate internet gaming. His knowledge, thought process and experience will be extremely valuable as we continue work to maintain Nevada as the gold standard in gaming regulation.”
Dr. Alamo has worked as a health and safety advocate beginning with his role as a ring physician, Medical Advisory Board Chairman, and later as a regulator appointed to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He finished his last year as Chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 2007.
The Nevada Gaming Commission is responsible for all gaming in Nevada including granting gaming privileged licenses as well as regulatory control and oversight.
During Dr. Alamo’s tenure, he regulated gaming during the most difficult economic times in Nevada gaming history and evaluated for approval the financial restructure of an unprecedented number of licensees.
