CARSON CITY, NV - November 08, 2011
Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Steve Hill as the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Hill, currently serving as Interim Executive Director, begins his permanent position immediately. The position is a cabinet level position in Sandoval’s administration.
“Steve will be an outstanding leader of the new Office of Economic Development,” Sandoval said. “He has already demonstrated a unique command of the issues we face, as well as a solid commitment to the future of this state. I appreciate his leadership as we seek ways to grow Nevada’s firms, recruit new businesses to our state, and create a new ‘opportunity economy’ for Nevada’s future.”
Pursuant to state law, Sandoval interviewed three applicants (including Hill) whose names were forwarded to him by the Economic Development Board last month.
Hill was previously the Sr. Vice President at CalPortland, a concrete, sand and gravel supplier in the Las Vegas area. During Governor-elect Sandoval’s transition, Hill served as Chair of the Economic Development Policy Committee and advised the Governor, Speaker and Majority Leader on economic development issues in preparation for the 2011 Legislative session. Hill is also a current member of the Commission on Economic Development.
In his position as Executive Director, Hill will be responsible for developing a State Plan for Economic Development and criteria for the designation of regional development authorities. Hill will also work to establish procedures for entering into contracts with regional development authorities to provide services to aid, promote, and encourage the economic development of this State.
