Amended Declaration of Emergency

Whereas, Nevada Revised Statute 414.070 authorizes the Governor to issue a proclamation declaring a state of emergency when a natural disaster of major proportions has occurred within this state, and the assistance of state agencies is needed to supplement the efforts and capabilities of political subdivisions to save lives, protect property, and protect the health and safety of persons in this state; and
Whereas, a severe weather system impacted northern Nevada between January 7-14, 2017, causing heavy rainfall and significant flooding; and,
Whereas, the counties of Washoe, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey, the City of Carson City, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, have declared a state of emergency due to the effects of the severe weather system; and
Whereas, the severe weather system damaged residential and commercial structures, as well as, transportation routes throughout northern Nevada, including Federal aid highways, and threatened the health, safety, and welfare of persons in this state; and,
Whereas, the repair and reconstruction ofthe damaged transportation routes and Federal aid highways in Washoe, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, Mineral, Churchill, Pershing, Humboldt, Lander, Eureka, and Elko, as well as, the City of Carson City and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, is vital to the security, well-being, and health ofthe citizens ofNevada; and,
Whereas, the condition of damaged transportation routes constitute an emergency, as contemplated by the terms of Section 125 and 120( e) ofTitle 23, U.S.C.; and,
Whereas, the counties of Washoe, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey, the City of Carson City, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California experienced a significant economic impact in providing emergency services resulting from the severe weather system and anticipate continued economic obligations resulting in financial hardship for short-term response and long-term recovery of the affected areas; and
Whereas, the counties of Washoe, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey, the City ofCarson City, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California require the assistance of the state government to save lives, protect property, and protect the health and safety of persons in this state; and

Now, Therefore, I, Brian Sandoval, Governor of the State of Nevada, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada, hereby declare a state of emergency due to the heavy rainfall, significant flooding, and consequent danger to life and damage to property, including transportation routes and Federal-aid highways. The immediate repair and reconstruction of the damaged highways is vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of the State of Nevada.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 2nd day of  February, in the year two thousand  seventeen.
