State of Nevada
Office of the Governor

Declaration of Emergency

Whereas, On October 14, 2016, Washoe County issued a proclamation declaring the existence of a local emergency due to the Little Valley Fire, which has burned approximately two thousand acres, including multiple structures, and continues to threaten hundreds of homes in Washoe County; and
Whereas, the Little Valley Fire has been exacerbated by existing drought conditions and extremely high winds; and
Whereas, the Little Valley Fire has caused the evacuation of residents in the affected areas of Washoe County and these residents are experiencing undue hardship as a result of the displacement; and
Whereas, Washoe County is experiencing significant economic impact in responding to these matters and anticipates continued economic obligation resulting in financial hardship for short term response and long-term recovery for the affected individuals and areas; and
Whereas, Nevada Revised Statute 414.070 authorizes the Governor to issue a proclamation declaring a state of emergency when a natural disaster of major proportions has occurred within this State, and the assistance of State agencies is needed to supplement the efforts and capabilities of political subdivisions to save lives, protect property, and protect the health and safety of persons in this State; and

Now, Therefore, I, Brian Sandoval, Governor of the State of Nevada, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada, hereby declare a state of emergency for Washoe County and direct all state agencies to supplement the efforts of political subdivisions to save lives, protect property, and protect the health and safety of persons in this state.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 14th day of  October, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
