Ordering Flags to Half Staff

WHEREAS, on October 1, 2017, a gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds of others in a senseless attack at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, in the wake of this tragedy, the citizens of Nevada came together to support the victims and their families, and to begin the process of healing; and
WHEREAS, the past year has demonstrated the true strength of Las Vegas and its citizens, specifically the countless heroes who serve as law enforcement officers, medical professionals and first responders who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the attack; and
WHEREAS, the people of Nevada will never forget this tragic day, and hold the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in their thoughts and prayers on this first anniversary of these events; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on October 1, 2018, as a mark of respect and in remembrance of the victims.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 26th day of  September, in the year two thousand  eighteen.
