EXECUTIVE ORDER 2018-23 

Ordering Flags to Half Staff

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, thousands of innocent men, women, and children lost their lives as a result of terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, in response to the attacks, the people of the United States of America stood together to aid the victims, comfort the mourning, and bring the perpetrators to justice;
WHEREAS, the people of this nation will never forget the horror of the attacks, or the bravery and heroism of the first responders on that day;
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day” pursuant to a joint resolution approved on December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89) and has directed that September 11 be recognized as “National Day of Service and Remembrance” pursuant to a public law approved on April 21, 2009 (Public Law 111-13); and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in recognition of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 11th day of  September, in the year two thousand  2018.
