EXECUTIVE ORDER 2018-22 

Ordering Flags to Half Staff

WHEREAS, Senator John S. McCain was a distinguished veteran, leader, and public servant, who devoted his life to the service of the United States;
WHEREAS, Senator McCain passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018;
WHEREAS, the deepest sympathies of all Nevadans are with the McCain family, as we remember Senator McCain’s remarkable life and legacy;
WHEREAS, the President of the United States issued a proclamation directing that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all federal public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories, including embassies, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, until sunset on the day of his interment; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds until sunset on the day of interment of Senator McCain as a mark of respect and in remembrance of his remarkable life and service.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 27th day of  August, in the year two thousand  eighteen.
