EXECUTIVE ORDER 2018-14 

Ordering Flags to Half Staff

WHEREAS, the founders of our nation recognized the vital role of the press in a democratic society;
WHEREAS, on June 28, 2018, five members of the press were killed, and others gravely injured, during a senseless attack at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland;
WHEREAS, the deepest sympathies of all Nevadans are with the people of Maryland during this time of tragedy;
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the lowering of the flag of the United States at the White House and all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts, military facilities, naval stations and naval vessels throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, July 3, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides that, "The supreme executive power of this state, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half staff at the State Capitol and all military facilities, military posts and state public buildings and grounds until sunset on July 3, 2018.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this third day of  July, in the year two thousand  eighteen.
