State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department



WHEREAS, National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day provide us the opportunity to honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty;

WHEREAS, in 2016, 118 officers died in the line of duty in the United States, 66 of whom were victims of violent attacks;

WHEREAS, law enforcement officers throughout our county, and our state, protect and serve every day with honor, integrity, and distinction;

WHEREAS, the President of the United States issued a Proclamation this morning directing that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all federal public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories, including embassies, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, until sunset today, May 15, 2017, Peace Officers Memorial Day; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds immediately until sunset today, May 15, 2017, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 15th day of  May, in the year two thousand  seventeen.
