WHEREAS, law enforcement officers throughout the State of Nevada protect and serve our citizens and visitors with honor, integrity, and distinction on a daily basis;
WHEREAS, we rely upon law enforcement officers to keep us safe, enforce our laws, and respond to emergencies;
WHEREAS, in conjunction with National Police Week, on Thursday, May 4, 2017, the 20th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony will be held on the Capitol grounds in Carson City to recognize the ultimate sacrifice our law enforcement officers have made in service to our communities;
WHEREAS, the service will honor the 130 Nevada Law Enforcement Officers who have been killed in the line of duty since 1861, including North Las Vegas Police Detective Chad Parque; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive
power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
