State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department



WHEREAS, on December 7, 1941, our nation was attacked at Pearl Harbor, and nearly 2,400 lives were lost that day;

WHEREAS, seventy-five (75) years have passed since the attack, but it is a day that our nation shall never forget;

WHEREAS, December 7th of each year is designated as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to commemorate and honor all the brave and heroic persons who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and defended our nation and the cause of freedom;

WHEREAS, Nevada Revised Statute 236.045(2) encourages the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff on December 7th of each year; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, to honor and remember all of those who served our nation and the sacrifices made at Pearl Harbor.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 30th day of  November, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
