ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were carried out against the United States of America and our way of life;
WHEREAS, thousands of innocent men, women, and children lost their lives as a result of the attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.;
WHEREAS, in response to the attacks, the people of America stood united to aid the victims and bring justice to the perpetrators;
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day" pursuant to a joint resolution approved on December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89) and has directed that September 11 be recognized as "National Day of Service and Remembrance" pursuant to a public law approved on April 21, 2009 (Public Law 111-13); and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds on Sunday, September 11, 2016, in recognition of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.
