State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department



WHEREAS, every year unpredictable wildfires occur throughout the western United States and threaten to destroy the land, the homes, and the lives of others, including those in Nevada;

WHEREAS, firefighters travel from near and far away to endure extreme heat, rough terrain, and place themselves in peril to fight these wildfires, often with little advanced notice;

WHEREAS, Justin Beebe was from Vermont, he worked for the United States Forest Service, he was a member of the Lolo Hotshots, and he was based in Montana;

WHEREAS, Mr. Beebe traveled to Nevada to help us, and he was tragically killed on Saturday, August 13, 2016, while fighting a wildfire in the Great Basin National Park;

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds until sunset on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of Justin Beebe.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 17th day of  August, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
