EXECUTIVE ORDER 2016-24 

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS, law enforcement officers throughout our nation risk their lives every day to protect us and keep our communities safe;

WHEREAS, a tragic attack was carried out on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, that claimed the lives of several law enforcement officers and wounded others; 

WHEREAS, the thoughts and prayers of all Nevadans are with the families, loved ones, and colleagues of the victims;

WHEREAS, the President of the United States issued a proclamation directing that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House, all federal public buildings and grounds, all military posts and naval stations, all federal naval vessels, and throughout the United States and its Territories until sunset on Friday, July 22, 2016, as a mark of respect for the victims; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds until sunset on Friday, July 22, 2016, as a mark of respect and in remembrance of the victims in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 19th day of  July, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
