ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS, we owe a great debt to firefighters, who demonstrate courage, skill, determination, selflessness, and professionalism every day by placing themselves in danger by answering the call to battle fires and help others in need;
WHEREAS, Jacob O'Malley and Will Hawkins, two wild land firefighters and Nevadans who worked for the Bureau of Land Management, were tragically killed while returning to Winnemucca from a wildland fire patrol in Northern Nevada;
WHEREAS, the thoughts and prayers of all Nevadans go out to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of Mr. O'Malley and Mr. Hawkins during this time of loss;
WHEREAS, the lowering of the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to half-staff shall coincide with the lowering of the flags pursuant to Executive Order 2016-22; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: ''The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, from sunrise to sunset, in honor and remembrance of the service and sacrifice of Mr. O'Malley and Mr. Hawkins.
