EXECUTIVE ORDER 2016-22 

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS, numerous innocent people were tragically killed and injured by an attack in Nice, France on July 14, 2016;

WHEREAS, the thoughts and prayers of Nevadans are with the victims of this senseless violence, and we stand united with the people of France during this time of tragedy;

WHEREAS, the President of the United States issued a proclamation directing that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all federal public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories, including embassies, consular offices, and other facilities abroad until sunset on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, as a mark of respect for the victims of this attack; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds immediately until sunset on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack in Nice, France.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 15th day of  July, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
