State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department



WHEREAS, law enforcement officers throughout the State of Nevada protect and serve our citizens and visitors with honor, integrity, and distinction on a daily basis;

WHEREAS, we rely upon law enforcement officers to keep us safe, enforce our laws, and respond to emergencies;

WHEREAS, in conjunction with National Police Week, on Thursday, May 5, 2016, the 19th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony will be held on the Capitol grounds in Carson City to recognize the ultimate sacrifice our law enforcement officers have made in service to our communities;

WHEREAS, the service will honor the 129 Nevada Law Enforcement Officers who have been killed in the line of duty since 1861, including Carson City Deputy Sheriff Carl Howell; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from· sunrise to sunset, in honor of all the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty, including Deputy Howell.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 29th day of  April, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
