State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2016-10 

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS, former Nevada Supreme Court Justice, former United States Congressman, and former Nevada State Senator C. Clifton "Cliff' Young was a remarkable and historic Nevadan and shall be remembered as one of our State's great public servants;
WHEREAS, born in Lovelock, Nevada on November 7, 1922, Justice Young graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, and served in the United States Military during World War II;
WHEREAS, after World War II, Justice Young graduated from Harvard Law School, and returned to Reno to practice law;
WHEREAS, Justice Young served as Nevada's Representative to the United States Congress from 1953 to 1957;
WHEREAS, Justice Young served as a Senator in the Nevada State Legislature from 1966 to 1980, and was later inducted into the Nevada Senate Hall of Fame;
WHEREAS, Justice Young served as a Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court from 1985 to 2002;
WHEREAS, Justice Young was a respected Statesman who led a distinguished career of service devoted to the interests of Nevada, and his work and character have left an enduring legacy on our State;
WHEREAS, Justice Young passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at the age of ninety-three (93) years old, and the thoughts and prayers of Nevadans are with his family and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds until sunset on Sunday, April 10, 2016, as a mark of respect and in remembrance of Justice Young.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 5th day of  April, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
