State of Nevada Executive Order - Executive Department



WHEREAS, the Honorable Antonin Gregory Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, was born in Trenton, New Jersey on March 11, 1936;

WHEREAS, Justice Scalia was nominated by former United States President Ronald Reagan and confirmed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1986;

WHEREAS, Justice Scalia has faithfully served as a jurist on the Court since that time;

WHEREAS, Justice Scalia's death was announced today;

WHEREAS, Justice Scalia and his family are in our thoughts and prayers;

WHEREAS, Title 4, Section 7 of the United States Code provides that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff "from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court"; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 ,o_f the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from today until sunset on the day of interment of Justice Scalia as a mark of respect and in remembrance of his service.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 13th day of  February, in the year two thousand  sixteen.
